Sports betting now open at Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino By WGR 550. WGR 550 SportsRadio. December 13, 2019 10:28 am. (WBEN) - The ribbon was cut Friday morning for Seneca. The Seneca Tribe is planning on opening a trio of sports betting lounges across the state of New York, and Buffalo was a great choice for their very first one. The Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino is the headquarters for this new sports betting lounge, which is now up and running. Sports betting in the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino is conducted on the gaming floor, both with in-person sportsbook ticket writers and self-service kiosks. As mentioned previously, Seneca hopes to create a dedicated space for its sportsbooks within the next year, but for now, sports wagers will continue being processed on the main floor. The Sports Lounge is the hottest ticket around! You can bet on all your favorite sports, games and fights, including pro football, pro hockey, college sports, boxing and much more. You decide what to bet on, whether it’s points, money line or planning to parlay your way to a big win. Get in the Game at the Sports. Sports betting will also become available at both Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino and Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino in the near future. It’s expected that players will be able to bet on all traditional forms of sports gambling including the NFL, NHL, NBA, and collegiate sports.
There was a time when sports betting involved the guy sitting in the back booth of a neighborhood bar or some cubicle in an office. Now it’s online or in giant bettor parlors with massive screens featuring sporting events. An increasingly legal system of sports betting exists for those who want to put cash down on the outcome of a game or of some aspect of the game.
Seneca Gaming Corporation has sports betting lounges in each of its three casinos and Gavin Mercado is its executive director of sports book and interactive gaming. He said betting brings in customers.
’Buffalo Creek is in close proximity to the First Niagara Arena. We saw last year, a lot of the guys and girls that were going to the game were stopping in the sports bar before, stopping back after to collect their winnings or placing another wager in a game coming up next,’ Mercado said. ’I think just in our general area, we see a lot of foot traffic.’
Mercado said Buffalo Bills fans were supporting the team with their bets. He said customers will bet on any sport and any activity taking place in a game, from rugby to tennis to a surprisingly strong interest in the NBA.There will be 300 ways to bet on the Super Bowl.
’Is this like betting on the 8th Pole? Not really, because we still don’t know what’s going to happen, right? It depends on when you get the line, where you get it at,’ Mercado said. ’Some people actually prefer to come in after the kickoff, watch maybe the first quarter, watch the first half, and then place a wager because they feel like they know exactly what’s going to happen at the end.’

Gaming regulators officially allowed sports gambling in New York in June and over the course of this summer, casinos have been opening their sports facilities.
’I think its time has come in New York,’ state Senator Pat Gallivan, R-Elma, said. ’Constituents that I speak with are very supportive of it and no doubt I think people will partake.’
This week, Resorts World Catskills in Monticello will become the last of four commercially licensed upstate casinos to open a sportsbook — just in time for the NFL season. The Oneida Indian Nation is also opening what it says is the state’s largest facility Wednesday in Chittenango.
Yet, in Western New York things have been quiet.’No doubt in my mind that we’ll see (the Seneca Nation’s) entry into it in the not too distant future but I don’t have any firsthand knowledge but they’re business people and they’re looking into something that could bring in revenues to their casinos,” said Gallivan.The Oneidas and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe are already operating sports betting in some of their casinos but the Seneca Nation is not.
“We are making some exciting progress on our sports wagering operations in Niagara Falls, Buffalo and Salamanca,’ Seneca Gaming Corp. spokesperson Phil Pantano said. ’We will share details about what our patrons can expect as soon as they are finalized.’Perhaps a telling sign, the Buffalo Bills announced last week a new partnership with Seneca Resorts and Casinos.
